Kelpe's picked

LOUGHBOROUGH electronica star Kelpe has compiled his own Albums Of The Decade, for website Ragged Words.
His choices are -

  • Beak> - Beak> (2009)
  • Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue (2009)
  • Bonnie “Prince” Billy - Master And Everyone (2003)
  • Lone - Lemurian (2008)
  • Manitoba - Start Breaking My Heart (2001)
  • Panda Bear - Person Pitch (2007)
  • Portishead - Third (2008)
  • Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher (2003)
  • Tortoise - It's All Around You (2004)
  • Stars of The Lid - The Tired Sounds Of Stars Of The Lid (2001)

  1. Beak> awesome album soooo under rated!

  2. I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by it when I reviewed it.
Maybe I'll give it another chance. On your head be it, Mumhra.

  3. Okay, Beak>'s been revisited.
    And here's my new verdict.
Maybe 3/5 was a tad harsh for the original review - maybe it had something to do with landing around the same time as the likes of the Miike Snow, Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou and Local Natives LPs, all of which I really adored.
However I still feel that the album comes in waves of utter brilliance and forgettable dross, no doubt the result of throwing the LP together in just 12 days, so my original mark remains.
Now if Barrow could find a happy medium between 12 days and the decade-plus it took them to do the last Portishead album, then we'd be laughing.
